Driftlurker
Sculpted by Julie Guthrie
These callous and ever-vigilent watchbeings are summoned from the Lower Planes by powerful wizards and priests to guard their valuables and secrets. The creatures never sleep; if their charge is taken they are unrelenting in their pursuit of it. The Driftlurker resents indenture but it enjoys venting its frustrations on interlopers.
The Driftlurker is a limbless, spiked sphere covered in rock-hard growths capable of repelling all but the strongest of blows. They are lethal combatants. Their spiky growths, combined with their natural ability to fly, turn them into living battering rams. Their great gaping mouths are filled with rows of finger-sized teeth capable of ripping aside mail. Driftlurkers may utter a stream of obscenities known as a vile rebuke, pulping and corroding living flesh like a disease. The Driftlurker possesses a limited ability to teleport, avoiding enemy spells and attacks, but it is their ability to turn spells back upon the caster that puts unprepared delvers on the defensive.
The secret rite to summon Driftlurkers was contained in a series of scrolls residing in a private library in the Taltain city of Port Gangrel. According to rumor, the scrolls, along with many other valuable arcane goods, were stolen on behalf of the nefarious sorcerer Erebus Nalas. No doubt the sorcerer's lair in the Westbarrow Hills is now protected by several of these malignant monstrosities.
